June Updates #2
CONTROL vs CHAOS
Remember in “Get Smart” agent 86 Maxwell Smart who worked for “Control” always was utterly distorted and confused only to overcome his nemesis “Chaos”? That’s kind of the way things have been and finally have come together in the completion of the “Back In Black” project rebuilding the UL-929. We’ve spent long hours at night after our day jobs. At times it seemed we spent more time looking for stuff than doing stuff. Similar to a chemical reaction, you have to have maximum randomness before the heat of reaction, than finally order. Many elements have been randomly flying around and colliding. Now we are just a few steps away from finishing our long awaited completion. We have had so much help from a cast of quality characters and are extremely grateful. The owners and crew of the UL-72 and UL-11 to our own team and crew of the UL-929 the time and sacrifice has been phenomenal. There’s a new cockpit, roll cage, and canopy. We have new sponsons, canard wing and tails. The steering system has been rebuilt and furnished with Nascar parts manufactured by Joe’s Racing Products. The transom is new and stout. The belly pan and after plane are new with rigid reinforcement. The skid fin bracket as is much of the rest of the hardware are new or refurbished. The shoes and swim step are new sporting an innovative design with Vince “The X-Man” Xaudaros’ signature all over them. Then there’s a state of the art strobe light provided by Whelen Engineering. The big block 509 engine has been rebuilt and is race ready. We also have our new hauler which has been painted by Speedway Collision in Lynnwood WA. There’s so much more I can’t mention everything. We’re looking forward to getting the UL-929 painted and perhaps a test session before the first race for this rebuilt hull at the Tri Cities Atomic Cup July 23rd, 24th, , and 25th. We’ll post pictures as soon as the paint job on the hydroplane is complete. Thanks so much for all the help, support, and interest everyone has shown. See YOU at the races. Photos by Tim VanHollebeke
